Sensex strikes all time high at 13,074.47 pts
Mumbai, Nov 2 (UNI) The BSE Sensex struck all time high of 13074.47, on back of strong buying interest for the index pivotals and due to sustained buying support from FIIs, a leading broker said here this morning.
The Sensex opened all time high at 13,062.52 points with smart gains of 29 points from its previous close of 13033.04. The intra-day low is at 13014.65 and high at 13,102.70. But the current level is 13,075 with a handsome gain of 41.43 points from its last close.
Market breadth was strong with close to two gainers for every single loser on BSE. 1131 shares advanced, 559 declined, and 49 stayed unchanged.
Among the Sensex pack, 20 advanced while the rest declined.
Maruti Udyog was the top gainer, up 1.77 pc to Rs 979.30 on 60857 shares. ONGC (up 1.74 per cent to Rs 817.15), HDFC (up 1.39 pc to Rs 1448) and L&T (up 1.28 pc to Rs 1338) were the other gainers.
Index heavyweight, Reliance Industries (RIL) surged to a lifetime high of Rs 1279. It is currently trading 0.60 pc higher at Rs 1271.60 on 2.97 lakh shares.
Satyam Computers was the top loser, down by one pc to Rs 430.50 on 92061 shares.
Diamond jewellery maker Classic Diamonds surged 6.35 pc to Rs 485 after the company said on Wednesday its board would meet on November nine to consider a 5-for-1 stock split. The board would also consider raising funds for overseas acquisitions.
As per provisional data FIIs, bought shares worth a net Rs 83 crore on November one, the day when Sensex had risen 71 points. They were net buyers to the tune of Rs 402 crore in index-based futures on that day. They were net buyers to the tune of Rs 74 crore in individual stock futures on that day.
US blue chips fell for a fourth day on Wednesday after a report showed manufacturing growth slowed to a near standstill, raising concerns the economy won't expand at a pace strong enough to support robust corporate profits. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 49.71 points (0.41 pc) to end at 12,031.02. The Standard&Poor's 500 Index dropped 10.13 points, or 0.74 pc to finish at 1,367.81.
The Nasdaq Composite Index slid 32.36 points (1.37 pc) to close at 2,334.35.
US light crude futures were up six cents at USD 58.77 a barrel today after falling as low as USD 57.80 and rising as high as USD 59.45 following US inventory data that showed fuel stocks in the world's top consumer falling despite rising refinery throughput, brokers added.
