SC refuses to stay sealing; next hearing on Nov 6
New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court today declined to grant permission to the Centre and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to use their discretion for deferring the sealing operation against 40,000-odd commercial establishments operating from residential areas in the Capital and fixed November 6 as the next date of hearing.
A three-judge Division Bench comprising Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice Dalveer Bandari and Justice Lokeshwar Singh Panta, however, fixed Monday as the next day of hearing of applications by the Centre and the MCD seeking relief for traders against the sealing operation.
The hearing was fixed by the Bench after Additional Solicitor General Amrendra Saran sought an early hearing of the application in view of the charged atmosphere over the issue in the capital.
Meanwhile, after a three-day bandh, which disrupted normal life in the national capital, traders today opened their shops.
The Centre had yesterday moved the Supreme Court seeking modification of its September 29 order to enable the more than 40,000 traders, who had filed affidavits that they would close down their establishments, continue their business until the final decision of the court on the issue.
