Reddy says MCD to seek relief on sealing from SC tomorrow

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will once again APPROACH the Supreme Court tomorrow seeking relief on the sealing issue.

Announcing this, after the Group of Ministers' meeting this evening chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy told mediapersons that the police and MCD had informed it that in view of the prevailing tense situation in the Capital, sealing was ''very difficult''.

Already there was rage among traders on the sealing issue and besides, Mr Reddy said that on November 4 and 5, there were Sikh festivals which needed largescale security arrangements because of which sealing was difficult.

Asked whether this meant that sealing had been deferred till Monday, Mr Reddy said, ''I am not saying this but MCD is putting its case before the Supreme Court tomorrow.'' The Monitoring Committee had asked the MCD to continue with the sealing but it expressed its inability due to the prevailing tense situation, he said.

''Our aim is to follow the Supreme Court orders but ground realities have also to be taken into account.'' In its about one-and-a-half hour meeting, the GoM was attended by among others Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Police Commissioner K K Paul.
