MIT bids to host Indian Science Congress

Mangalore, Nov 2: The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) here has bid to host the 'Indian Science Congress' in January 2008 to mark the culmination of its year-long golden jubilee celebration.

Disclosing this at a press conference here today, Institute Director Brig (Dr) S S Pabla said the Institute had bid for hosting the Congress with the supreme body of the Congress and had received a ''favourable response''. A high-level Committee of the Congress was expected to meet on November ten to make an assessment on the bids. If the Institute got the approval, the Congress would be held for three days from January three, 2008, with the participation of about 21,000 scientists.

He said the Institute proposed to hold 30 national and international conferences during the year, besides several colourful events. It had also made similar bids for holding the national convention of the Indian Society for Technical Education and National Buildings Congress. The International Printing Technology Convention was slated to be held here from November 22, while the National Children Science Congress would be held at the Institute's wing at Sikkim from December 26, which would be inaugurated by President A P J Abdul Kalam, he added.

Control Instrumentation Systems Conference (CISCON) 2006 Convener P R Venkateswaran said the third national level CISCON would be held here for two days from tomorrow. About 80 manuscripts covering diverse areas like computer applications, modelling and simulation, automation and application of robots, digital signal processing, energy management and control, and aerospace instrumentation have been received.

He said around 100 delegates from all over the country, including researchers, industrialists and academicians from reputed institutes were expected to participate in the conference.
