Man fires near Italy consulate in Istanbul over Pope-TV

ISTANBUL, Nov 2 (Reuters) A man fired a weapon in front of the Italian consulate in Istanbul today to protest against Pope Benedict's controversial visit to Turkey later this month, broadcaster CNN Turk reported.

CNN Turk said police detained the man who fired in the air next to the consulate. No further details were immediately available. The police could not immediately confirm the information.
