LG offers floral chadar at Dargah of Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki
New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor B L Joshi today offered a floral 'chadar' at the Dargah of Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki at Mehrauli today as part of the annual historic festival 'Phool Walon Ki Sair'.
Members of different communities carried the chadar in a procession to the Dargah amidst religious Qawwalis.
In his address, the Lt Governor said all should follow the Sufi teachings of peaceful co-existence and communal harmony, dding this was something which Delhi had a long tradition of.
The Lt Governor would make Floral offerings at the nearby temple of Yogmayaji tomorrow and would be joined by people cutting across religious barriers.
The last day of the three-day programme, organised by 'Anjuman-Sair-e-Gul-Faroshan' would include a light and sound show, late-night qawwalis, kite flying and film show.
A Number of states were sending their attractive 'Pankhas' in the festival of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood, which enriched value of unity and secularism.
The traditional Pankha depicted religious and communal harmony.
A eight-day-long festival of communal harmony and national integration was started during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar Shah-II (1808-1837). The festival was discontinued in 1942 but was revived by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961.
