Kerala HC notices govt on bus, lorry strike

Kochi, Nov 2: The Kerala High Court today issued notice to the state government on a petition seeking that the ongoing strike by bus and lorry operators be declared illegal.

Admitting the public interest litigation (PIL) petition, filed by Mr K U Paul from Kochi, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice P R Raman also issued notice to the Bus Operators Association and the Lorry Operators Association.

The matter will come up for hearing tomorrow.

The petitioner, citing the great inconvenience caused to the general public by the frequent strikes by bus and lorry operators, also sought a direction to the government to cancel the permits given to the operators under the Motor Vehicles Act.
