Indian carpenter out of coma after 3 months identified
Dubai, Nov 2 (UNI) An Indian carpenter, who regained consciousness after being in a coma for nearly three months in a hospital in Bahrain, has been finally identified.
Surjit Singh Bedi was recognised by a neighbour in Punjab from newspaper reports and his family in Hoshiarpur was contacted.
The friend, whose name was not made public, said he had worked with Bedi in Bahrain six years ago.
Bedi's sister in Punjab has agreed to look after him if he is sent back home and the community leaders are seeking financial assistance in this regard.
Bedi's niece in India, Harwinder Kaur, told the Gulf Daily News from Hoshiarpur that her uncle worked as a carpenter.
''He left home in search of a job in Bahrain 22 years ago and rarely contacted the family,'' she said.
The last letter he sent his sister was 12 years ago when their mother had died but he never called, Mrs Kaur said.
Bedi was found unconscious by police near a Manama road on July 31 and had been in hospital ever since bearing the nametag ''unknown''.
