I have no faith in MP police, says Digvijay

Bhopal, Nov 2 (UNI) Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today said in the Assembly that he had no faith in the Madhya Pradesh police with the administration having been crippled during the BJP rule and sought a CBI inquiry into the attack on Uma Bharti in Chhatarpur district.

Initiating the debate on an adjournment motion moved by him and 20 others, Mr Singh said the administration had been crippled with ''multiple power centres'' holding the reigns in the past three years of BJP rule, including during the tenure of Ms Uma Bharti and Babulal Gaur. Such a situation led to the murder of Prof H S Sabharwal in Ujjain and registration and subsequent quashing of an FIR against the DGP, he said.

''Impartial action cannot be expected from the police which registered a case of attempt to murder against Ms Bharti, who was a victim of attack by ruling BJP workers. I have no faith in the Madhya Pradesh police and investigations into the entire incident should be handed over to the CBI'', Mr Singh said.

Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan gave his consent for immediate discussion on the adjournment motion. The opposition Congress yesterday sought immediate debate on the issue causing uproar leading to adjournment of the house for the day before lunch break.

Mr Singh said the ''intolerant attitude'' of Ms Bharti was the root cause of the unpalatable developments and the ruling BJP added fuel to the fire by withdrawing security cover despite her ''Z Plus'' entitlement and ''cancelling'' permission to the Ms Bharti-led Bhartiya Jan Shakti for an election meeting at Jaitpur and permitting the Chief Minister to address a meeting at the same venue and time.

''Things would have gone more serious if Ms Bharti had not taken shelter in a temple at Serora village to escape attack by BJP workers during polling in Malehra constituency. Several BJP workers, including an MLA, were caught distributing money and liquor to lure voters'', he said.

''It was astounding that not only a case of attempt to murder was lodged against Ms Bharti, but her ''Pooja'' materials were stolen'', he pointed out.
