HC seeks report on pending criminal cases against police officers

Patna, Nov 02 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed the Bihar government to file status report on pending criminal cases against its police officers.

Chief Justice Dr J.N.Bhatt and Justice Shailesh Kumar Sinha of the court directed the government to file report on criminal cases pending against the police officers of different levels including the IPS.

The order was given after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition filed by Bihar unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Earlier, the government had filed an affidavit informing the court that criminal cases were pending against three IPS officers- Paresh Saxena, Ajay Verma and Bachhu Singh Meena while 133 cases against the cops were pending with CID.

According to the affidavit, about 473 cases had been disposed off by the CID, out of which cahrgesheets were filed in 377 cases while no evidence was found in 96 cases and matters were treated as closed.
