Hair maybe back soon, says ICC CEO Malcolm Speed

Sydney, Nov 2 (UNI) Despite the complaint by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), controversial Australian umpire Darrell Hair may resume his international career after ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed indicated that the governing body was trying to 'find a way' to get him back on the field.

Hair, who was at the center on the infamous Oval Test fiasco, was dropped from the ICC panel of umpires for the ongoing Champions Trophy due to concerns about his security in the sub-continent.

However, Speed said the ICC wanted to find a way to ensure that the umpire got back to his job. His statement comes after the PCB lodged a complaint with the governing body calling for an investigation into Hair's conduct in the controversial match which ended with the umpires forfeiting the game in England's favour.

''I don't believe that long-term security will be a concern for Darrell Hair in the subcontinent,'' the 'Courier Mail quoted Speed as saying.

''I hope it will all be resolved once and for all in the next few days,'' he added, referring to the ICC Executive Board meeting to be held this week in Mumbai.

Despite the PCB's reservations about Hair, Mr Speed said the Australian was one of the best in the world and the ICC wanted to keep him on its panel.

''I hope we can find a way for Darrell to continue to umpire at the highest level. He is one of the world's best umpires,'' he went on to elaborate.
