Govt releases 13 lakh tonnes of non-levy sugar for November
New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) To curb price increase at retail level, the Government has released 13 lakh tonnes of sugar as non-levy for the current month as against 12 lakh tonnes of quota released during the corresponding month last year.
The sugar released for November is required to be sold within the month and any unsold quantity at the end of the month would be converted into levy sugar, an official statement said here today.
The non-levy sugar quota of 13 lakh MTs released for the month of November 2006 is expected to maintain the retail prices of sugar at reasonable level. However, if sugar prices show any abnormal increasing trend, additional releases shall be made, the statement added.
