Dalit beaten to death by landlord in Punjab

Sangrur, Nov 2 (UNI) In a gruesome incident, a poor Dalit youth was dragged from his residence and beaten to death allegedly by his employer in Khatiyal village in the district today.

The alleged accused, Bhola Singh, then brought the bruised body of the 22-year-old youth to the mother of the deceased and claimed that her son had taken some poison.

Hundreds of villagers led by the village Panchayat, mostly Dalits, gathered at the residence of the deceased and took the body to the Sangrur Civil hospital for post mortem.

According to Jasbir Kaur, the mother of the dead victim, local police had refused to lodge an FIR against Bhola Singh, who was reportedly absconding after delivering the body at her place.

Meanwhile, the concerned villagers were gathered at the Civil hospital, waiting for the post mortem to be done and registration of a case by the police.
