Court notice to Bihar govt. on human rights commission

Patna, Nov 02 (UNI) Patna High court today directed the Bihar government to reply within three weeks stating why the state human rights commssion was not constituted so far.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice J.N.Bhatt and justice Shailesh Kumar Sinha issued a notice to the government after hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition.

Earlier, petitioner Shruti Singh, a lawyer, informed the court that the state government was not taking any action for constitution of the human rights commission despite a directive issued by the National Human Rights Commission.

The petition alleged that the state government did not want to have such commission as the government was already running a Janta Darbar of Bihar Chief Minister. The Darbar act as human rights commssion, he added.

The petitioner also urged the court to restraint the Chief Minister from holding such Janta Darbar.
