1993 serial blasts: 3 blasts accused convicted
Mumbai, Nov 2: A TADA court, which is delivering its verdict in the 1993 serial blasts case, today convicted three people for their role in the blasts.
Special Judge P D Kode found one person guilty of possessing arms and two custom officials guilty of helping prime absconding accused Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, Tiger Memon and Mohammad Dossa in the landing of deadly arms and ammunition at Dighi in Raigad district.
The court found suspended Custom Superintendent Sadashiv Talawadekar and Custom Inspector Jan Grove guilty under sec 3(3) of the TADA Act and other acts. However, both of them were not found guilty u/s 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code. The court accepted their confessional statement, which was retracted by them earlier, as a true and voluntarily made statement.
Meanwhile, another blast accused Ayub Qureshi, was also found guilty for possessing arms in the notified area of the greater Mumbai, u/s 3(3) of the TADA Act but was acquitted in the conspiracy of the blast - 120(B) of the Indian Penal code - for lack of evidence.
Qureshi was found guilty of possessing a pistol and 56 cartridges which were smuggled into India for committing the terrorist act.
The trio, who were on bail were immediately taken into custody after they were found guilty and their bail bonds were cancelled.
