Sensex registers a new high of 13,033.04 on BSE

Mumbai, Nov 01 (UNI) The Sensitive Index (Sensex) today closed at a new high of 13,033.04 on the Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE) after touching an intra-day peak of 13,050.73.

The 71 point gain over the previous close is backed by a very strong performance of the Oil&gas sector, which saw resurgent buying and was followed by Capital Goods and FMCG sectors which too gained 0.84 per cent and 0.78 per cent respectively.

RBIs mid term review of the credit policy has predicted positive growth pattern for Indian manufacturing and Industrial sectors. To ensure proper liquidity control and check over inflation, bank rate, CRR and SLR have all been kept untouched, except for marginal hike in the repo rate by 25 basis points. The measure has boosted investors confidence, and was reflected in the performance at the bourses.

The midcap and smallcap indices have risen by 1.03 and 0.79 per cent today. These indices are supposed to be most lucrative of all stocks as their valuations are not overstretched compared to their peers.

The breadth in the broader market too was marginally positive in favour of 1,262 advances as against 1,254 declines out of total 2,590 scrips that traded the BSE counters.

The pack of gainers on the BSE-30 index were Reliance industries up by 3.10 per cent to Rs 1,264.20, Reliance Communciations up by 2.56 per cent to Rs 388.65, Bharti airtel up by 2.08 per cent to Rs 541.20, SBI up by 1.88 per cent to Rs 1,116.05, Gujarat Ambuja up by 1.83 per cent to Rs 119.40, BHEL up by 1.83 per cent to Rs 2,458.95, HLL up by 1.43 per cent to Rs 236.95, Hero Honda up by 1.16 per cent, ACC up by 1.12 per cent to Rs 978.60 and Grasim Industries up by 0.71 per cent to Rs 2,767.55.

Besides the losers on the index were HDFC down by 2.88 per cent to Rs 1,428.10, Cipla down by 1.95 per cent to Rs 256.95, ONGC down by 1.43 per cent to Rs 804.00, Satyam down by 1.28 per cent to Rs 434.90, HDFC down by 1.01 per cent to Rs 993.95, Reliance Energy down by 0.74 per cent Rs 479.85, Maruti Udyog down by 0.65 per cent to Rs 962.30, Ranbaxy down by 0.45 per cent to Rs 397.90, Bajaj auto down by 0.32 per cent to Rs 2,742.25 and TCS down by 0.21 per cent to Rs 1,082.25.
