Ruling SP MP Afzal Ansari's bail plea decision on Nov 9

Allahabad, Nov 1 (UNI) Allahabad High Court would deliver its order on November 9 regarding the maintainability of hearing the bail application of ruling Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari in the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case.

During the bail application hearing, an objection was raised by CBI and the counsel appearing for the complainant that the court had no jurisdiction to hear the bail application, since a central agency was investigating the case.

Justice Poonam Srivastava reserved its order on the issue of jurisdiction to hearing the bail application.

Earlier, the bail application of Afzal's younger brother and controversial Independent Uttar Pradesh MLA Mukhtar Ansari was heard by the same judge in the murder case.

However, Mukhtar's application was separated subsequently.

Both the brothers and their brother-in-law Ejaj are lodged in Ghazipur district jail in the high-profile assassination case.

Rai, an MLA from Mohammadabad assembly constituency in Ghazipur district and his seven supporters were shot dead in broad daylight in Ghazipur on November 29, 2005.

They were ambushed near the Ballia-Ghazipur border by several motorcycle-borne miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons.

Later, an FIR was lodged against 10 persons including Mukhtar, Afzal and notorious east UP gangster Munna Bajrangi in connection with the killing. Afzal surrendered in the court on December 8.
