Rangnekar XI, Phadkar XI gain vital first innings leads

Mumbai, Nov 1 (UNI) Khandu Rangnekar XI opened their account by securing a 67-run first innings lead over Vijay Manjrekar XI, with able assistance from bowlers Noorullah Khan (2-32), Akshay Darekar (2-25) and Swapnil Kulye (2-6), in the Sportstar Trophy MCA U-19 Selection Trial Tournament third and final round here today.

After bowling out Manjrekar XI for 132 in 50.4 overs, Rangnekar XI cruised to 181-5 and are ahead by 248 on the second day of the three-day tie at Karnataka ground, Cross Maidan. Sridip Mangela (53 runs, 83 balls) put on 99 for the first wicket with Aditya Tare (47 runs, 77 balls) for Rangnekar XI.

In the other match, Dattu Phadkar XI called the shots at Elf Vengsarkar Oval against leaders Vijay Merchant XI, compiling 316-9 in the first innings for a vital 53-run lead. Sachin Wagh exploded into strokes coming to the crease at number six (86 runs, 83 balls, 10 fours, four sixes), building on sizable knocks higher up the order from opener Deepak Shetty (35), Swapnil Pradhan (51) and Kunal Mathure (36). Left-arm spinner Pushkaraj Chavan (5-99) and medium-pacer Sagar Krishnani (3-83) were among the wickets for Merchant XI.
