OPGC achieves milestone in plant safety

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1 (UNI) The Orissa Power Generation Corporation, a joint venture of Orissa government and AES Corporation of the US, has achieved a milestone in plant safety norms for an outstanding 1,000 Lost Time Accident Free Days by October 31,2006.

An OPGC statement here today said very few companies in power sector in India had achieved this feat. With the new achievement, the OPGC would now stand at par with all leading international companies in terms of plant safety.

Sources said the OPGC had set this landmark for the period starting from February 4,2004 to October 30,2006.

The 1,000 continuous Lost Time Accident Free Days had been achieved at the company's Ib Thermal Power Station located at Jharsuguda with the introduction of better technical know how and adoption of improved work culture in the post joint venture period.

By giving priority to the safety culture in the plant, the company had provided its employees, contractors and other service providers a safer and healthier place to work.

OPGC had scheduled continuous periodic programs like Departmental Environment Safety and Health Meetings, Monthly Safety Committee Meetings, imparting Safety Training to its employees and contractors for motivating them to achieve further progress in the field of safety.
