Mizoram govt to focus on anti-insurgency operations
Aizawl, Nov 01 (UNI) Mizoram government today announced that it will focus on anti-insurgency operations in the region.
Talking to mediapersons here, state home secretary C.Ropianga said the state government was keeping an eye on insurgency activities in the neighbouring states as the NE states share porus international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar.
''Our mission to eradicate insurgency would continue,'' Mr Ropianga said with reference to the mass surrender of the Bru Liberation Front of Mizoram (BLFM) militants last week.
He said the BLFM is a faction of the Bru National Liberation Front (BNLF), who had surrendered to the Mizoram government, following a peace agreement early last year.
''We earlier thought the BNLF to be a "100-member group," but it turned out to be a 800-plus outfit,'' he added.
The Home Secretary further stated that though the Mizoram government was well aware of the situation in Tripura's Sakhan hilly range, where Mizo families had been displaced by the Bru insurgents, and actions would be taken only after the Bru insurgency problem was solved.
He mentioned that reports about the displaced in Sakhan hill range had been sent to the Centre. ''I had met the Central officials in this regard. I was told, once the Bru insurgency is solved, then the Centre will look into the rehabilitation of the displaced Mizos in Tripura's Sakhan.'' UNI BB JYN AB 1121
