LG appeals for extending support to the needy
New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi today appealed to the citizens of the National Capital to extend their full support to the Delhi Red Cross society in reaching out to the needy people.
He said this while releasing the society's souvenir at Raj Niwas here.
The LG also made his contribution to the Red Cross fund and was pinned a flag for it by a delegation of the society's Delhi branch led by its Honorary Secretary Lt Col (Retd) Krishan Gulati.
The Society was engaged in providing medical facilities, maternity and child care and also employment related vocational training. Red Cross also organised a 'flag week' as a fund raising exercise and to seek public support.
Earlier, with inspiration of the LG the Delhi Red Cross had started a membership drive to make new patron members by depositing a lifetime fee of Rs 20,000.
Delhi Red Cross East Delhi Chairperson J R Jindal had presented Mr Joshi membership cheques worth Rs one lakh.
Addressing a Red Cross delegation on October 30, he hoped that apart from being a fund raising drive, the membership campaign for patron members would provide an opportunity to the philanthropists and 'people-with-means' to express their concern for the needy and deprived sections of the society.
On this occasion, five cheques of Rs 20,000 each were presented to the Lt Governor towards the membership of the applicants.
The delegation included Bharat National Public School Principal Kanwaljit Khungar, Sadh Community Chariman S B Sadh, Little Flowers Public School Principal Neeta Dua, Mother Teresa Education Society Chairman Ashok Jethy and Mr Sanjay Jain of Jhang Apartments.
