J and K high court quashes detention of six detained under PSA
Srinagar, Nov 1 (UNI) Jammu and Kahsmir High court has quashed the detention of six people arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Kashmir valley.
The detainees, arrested from different parts of the Kashmir valley for their alleged involvement in the militancy-related incidents, has filed a petition challenging their arrest under PSA.
The court after hearing the arguments from both the sides, quashed the detention of Nissar Ahmad Wani, Mohammad Sultan, Mehraj Uddin Rather, Mohammad Iqbal, Mohammad Yousuf and Nisar Ahmad Dar.
The court directed the authorities to release them immediately if they are not wanted in any other cases.
Meanwhile, the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) spokesman Aiyaz Akbar alleged that hundreds of detainees are still languishing in different jails in and outside the state even after their release by the courts.
He said a number of senior separatists leaders are being re- arrested by the authorities.
Mr Akbar expressed concern over the plight of detainees suffering from different diseases.
