INLD urges President Kalam to cancel Reliance SEZ in Haryana

New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) A delegation of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), led by former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, today met President A P J Abdul Kalam and sought the cancellation of Reliance-promoted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Gurgaon in Haryana, dubbing it as ''biggest land scam of Independent India''.

In a memorandum to President Kalam, the INLD leaders said ''the Congress government with nefarious design and malicious mind struck down a deal with Reliance when the HSIIDC was in the advanced stage of setting up an SEZ of its own''.

The state government has agreed to transfer 1,395 acres of land to a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) at the same price at which HSIIDC had acquired it from the farmers, they said.

The land is being handed over on a platter to the RIL although the market-value of the land has already increased manifold, the memorandum added.

The RIL secured the land for Rs 290 crores which actually cost more than Rs one lakh crore, Mr Chautala said.
