Hindustan Lever to educate street and slum children
Bangalore, Nov 1 (UNI) Hindustan Lever Limited today kickstarted a campaign to benefit street and slum children in five Metros by helping them get education.
Actor Ramya Krishnan started the public campaign Surf Excel10/10, a donation drive to raise funds for the education of the disadvantaged children of Bangalore.
HLL marketing Manager for Premium Fabric Wash, Priya Nair told newsmen that HLL aimed to collect a maximum of Rs 500,000 in each centre through the unique campaign under which consumers have to sms the score they secure in a stained cloth distributed with every Excel pack. Surf Excel would contribute a corresponding amount to various institutions across the Metros. In Bangalore Parikrama, an NGO running schools for the less privileged children would be the beneficiary.
Ms Shukla Bose, Founder Chairperson of Parikrma told newsmen that there were over 500,000 children in 800 slums across the city who did not have access to quality eduction. Parikrma in four different centres in the city took care of 730 children from 26 slums and three shelters/orphanages.
Ms Priya said similar camapign was being carried out in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai with the beneficiary organisations being Prayas, Udayan, Udavum Karangal and Pratham.
