Goa to file contempt petition against Karnataka on Mhadei dispute
Panaji, Nov 1 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane said his Government was contemplating filing contempt petition against the Karnataka Government if the latter went ahead with works on disputed inter-state Mhadei River project, pending disposal of the matter in the Supreme Court.
Addressing media persons in presence of Water Resources Minister Filipe Neri Rodriguese and Advocate General Sobodh Kantak at the Secretariat complex here today, Mr Rane said Karnataka has continued with the works despite assurances to the Supreme Court when the matter came up for hearing recently.
''Our government has sufficient proof to prove that Karnataka Government has started digging trenches and carrying on other construction activities and has taken law into its own hands instead of waiting for the Supreme Courts decision, which amounts to contempt of the court,'' Mr Rane said.
The Centre was aware of this issue and Mr Rane said he had already briefed the highest authorities in the national capital in this regard.
