GM India sales up 12% in October

New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) General Motors India (GMI) today posted 11.45 per cent growth in October sales at 3,153 units as against 2,829 units during the same period last year.

The sales comprised of 2,011 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 902 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 240 units of Chevrolet Optra.

GM India sales during the January-October period stood at 30,686 units as compared to 26,371 units during the corresponding period last year, up by over 16 per cent.

''The sales figure for all our car lines have been very encouraging during the month of October 2006. We have maintained our pace during the festive season and have been able to meet our expected volume levels,'' GM India Vice President P Balendran said.

GM India is setting up a manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra, with an initial annual capacity of 1,40,000 vehicles.

The plant is expected to be completed within 20 months, with the production scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2008.

In addition, the company is expanding its dealership network from the present 89 sales points to 110 sales points this year.
