Gender gap in literacy must be addressed: Minister
Hyderabad, Nov 1 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Purandhareswari today observed that the gender gap in literacy needed to be addressed and new strategies had to be adopted to reach the marginal sections in the society.
Addressing the three-day meeting of Directors of Jana Sikshana Samsthans, State Resource Centres, State Directors of Adult Education of all the states here at Jubilee Hall, the Minister said, '' quality education had become a distant dream for fishing community, nomadic and other depressed communities.'' She said the ''Earn and Learn'' programmes implemented through Zilla Saksharatha and Jana Sikshana Samsthans were effective.
Andhra Pradesh Minister for School Education Rajya Lakshmi said to achieve 100 per cent literacy, all sections of the society should work in tandem with the government.
She said the women empowerment was a must and the child labour was a stumbling block in achieving total literacy in the state.
