Fridge, tubelights bearing energy efficiency label in market soo

New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) Consumers of household appliances can finally contribute directly to environment protection with products bearing energy efficiency label to hit the market from the third week of this month.

To begin with, refrigerators and tube lights bearing such a label will be available.

The advent of the new energy efficient products was announced here by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Ministry of Power during a presentation of the Task Force on Buildings and Appliances set up by the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development Mechanism that came into being in January this year.

Heads of other Task Force also made their presentations at a press conference addressed by the Secretray Environment Pradeepto Ghosh and US State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment Daniel A Reifsnyder.

Director General of the Bureau Ajay Mathur said Whirlpool and Godrej are the two companies that will be introducing energy efficient refrigerators and tube lights in the Indian market.

The products will be graded for energy efficiency with one to five stars, with the grade going up with the number of stars.

Mr Mathur said the energy efficiency level of the products will be tested at three stages--first by the company's lab itself, then by that of a rival company and finally by a third party lab certified by the government.
