Eleventh 5 Year-Plan to achieve 12 p c GDP growth: Sen

Hyderabad, Nov 1 (UNI) Planning Commission member Abhijit Sen today expressed confidence that the country would achieve 12 per cent growth rate by the end of Eleventh Five Year Plan beginning next year.

Delivering keynote address on 'Development Alternatives in the Planning Process' as part of Indo-Dutch Programme on Alternatives in Development (IDPAD) symposium, Prof Sen said the Commission was expecting nine per cent GDP growth in the Eleventh Five Year Plan.

The symposium was organised jointly by Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) and the Hague-based Institute of Social Studies (ISS) here.

The growth rate would be raised to 12 per cent by the end of 2012.

Stating that the Commission was taking all-out efforts to curb female illiteracy and infant mortality rate he said creating new jobs, ensuring equal wages to workers and a whole sale economic growth were among the priorities of the Plan.
