Digvijay firm on retirement from electoral politics

Bhopal, Nov 1 (UNI) Reiterating his promise to keep away from electoral and competitive politics, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today said it was time for second generation leaders to come forward in Madhya Pradesh.

Mr Singh told UNI here that he had bid goodbye to electoral politics but will continue to discharge his responsibilities handed over by the party with complete dedication.

On being as had what he would do if he were handed over some responsibility by the party high command, Mr Singh said next generation leaders would handle leadership here.

He said he had played his part in the state politics and quipped that he will don the role of 'ustad' in politics by getting electoral battles contested.

Rejecting the allegation that the Congress had failed to emerge as a strong opposition, he said the party was playing its role in an effective manner.

Mr Singh asserted the Congress did not need electoral alliance during state assembly election and it will never strike an alliance with Uma Bharti-led Bharatiya Jan Shakti at any cost.

He believed that Ms Bharti will re-join the BJP before next assembly election despite the fact that the BJS was at present against the BJP.

The former Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh had been declared 'fastest moving state' in a recent interview and claimed that the figures presented included figures from the eight years of the Congress rule.
