CPI demands resignation of Minister on moral grounds
Puducherry, Nov 1(UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India(CPI) today demanded the resignation of Welfare Minister P Angalan on moral grounds following registration of a case against him.
A resolution adopted at the administrative committee meeting of the party here, observed that the Thirukkanur police had registered a case against the minister under section 498(a) IPC, which is non bailable.
Even before the registeration of the case, Mr Angalan had stated that he would legally face the complaint of his second wife Kavi Priya, that she was being harassed and tortured by him.
Under the circumstances, Mr Angalan should resign from his post and can reclaim his portfolio , if he could prove his innocence in the case, the resolution added.
Meanwhile, Mr Angalan, was reportedly making efforts to get anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court. Sources close to Mr Angalan said that he is camping in Chennai.
