Bhanu surrenders, sent to jail for 14 days
Garhwa, Nov 1 (UNI) Ending months of speculation, controversial MLA from Bhawanathpur Bhanu Pratap Shahi today surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in-charge Varun Kumar Mishra, who remanded him to 14-day judicial custody in connection with warrants issued against him.
Mr Shahi, suspended from the Forward Bloc, was also recently denied oath of office twice by Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi to become Minister in the Madhu Koda government.
He was facing three warrants for his alleged involvement in assault on panchayat sevak Ganesh Tiwari, abusing Dr Vijay Ram of Khan Hospital and manhandling Block Statistics Officer Vishwanath Ram.
Lawyer of the accused Navin Chandra Singh told UNI the MLA surrendered regarding the case of Ganesh Tiwari.
Four others were also sent to jail in this connection.
The investigating officer earlier had withdrawn the warrants, saying there was not enough evidence against him prompting the High Court to intervene.
Even Chief Minister Madhu Koda before expansion of his Cabinet asserted that Mr Shahi would be made Minister for the warrants had been withdrawn.
That raised controversy prompting the High Court to seek details from the IOs regarding the case.
