Advocate alleges threat at gunpoint by a police official
New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) An Advocate appearing in a marital discord case for a woman, whose estranged husband is an officer with the Delhi police, wept inconsolably before a division bench of acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir alleging that the police officer had threatened him of dire consequences at gunpoint.
Taking serious view of the alleged threat by Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector(ASI) Sandeep Kumar, the Bench immediately summoned the Additional Commissioner of Police to be present in the afternoon session.
Advocate Keshav Kaushik appeared before the Court in the morning with his client Neelam Sharma and her son and alleged that the ASI had threatened him at gun point at Bahadurgarh in neighbouring Haryana on October 30.
Mr Kaushik had gone to Bahdurgarh to appear in another case in the district court.
The Court directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to provide security to Neelam, who was staying in the government quarters allotted to her husband at Nanakpura in South Delhi and Kaushik.
''It is a serious matter in which the litigant tries to pressurise the counsel appearing for the opposite party,'' said the court in the order.
Sandeep Kumar, who works with the computer wing of the Delhi Police, has been staying in his native village in Bahadurgarh.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) R P Upadhayay, who appeared in person, was asked to conduct a probe and file a report in three weeks.
While adjourning the matter till November 27, the Court asked Delhi Bar Association President A S Chandihoke and Senior Counsel P N Lekhi to assist in the probe.
Refuting the claims of Kaushik, the counsel appearing for Sandeep submitted that her client did not have a pistol and did not indulge in such unlawful activities.
Both estranged husband and wife had been fighting a divorce case in the family court in the Tis Hazari District Courts.
