112 farmers committed suicide in Vidarbha in October, VJAS
Nagpur, Nov 1 (UNI) As many as 112 farmers have committed suicide in the agrarian crisis-ridden Vidarbha in the month of October this year, the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) today claimed.
The VJAS, a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, claimed in a release here, that the suicide toll by farmers had reached 112 with seven farmers, including a woman, ending their lives on the last day of the month.
Among these seven farmers, three were from Yavatmal and one each from Buldhana, Bhandara, Nagpur and Washim districts, the VJAS release said.
As per the VJAS claims, the number of suicides by farmers in Vidarbha since June 2005 has touched 1,045. These include 124 who took the extreme step in September and 111 in August.
