UGG to create e-archive, digitise libraries

Aizawl, Oct 31: In a bid to link millions of university students in the North East states with the rest of the country, University Grant Commission (UGC) under Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET) will set up e-archives by digitising the libraries of the region.

Talking to UNI here today Prof Pravakar Rath, head of library science department, Mizoram University, said the new project would provide a platform for the library professionals to preserve the valuable resources.

As a part of the project, IMFLIBNET has organised a two-day convention on ''digital preservation, management and access to information in the twenty first century'' here on November nine and 10 to discuss the emerging issues in this field.

About 200 experts and professionals from different parts of the country and abroad will take part in the convention.

INFLIBNET has been working since a decade for bringing IT infrastructure in the university libraries by providing grants for infrastructure development and training manpower for automation and networking, Prof Rath said.
