Govt to boost tourism industry
Agartala, Oct 31: Tripura government will boost tourism industry to attract foreign tourists to this hilly North-Eastern state, Information, Cultural and Tourism (ICAT) Minister Anil Sarkar said.
Inaugurating the Baramura Tourist lodge at Teliamura, about 35 Kms from here, in Tripura's West District yesterday, the minister said though infrastructure for the tourists in the state was restricted compared to other states. Yet more than 3,000 foreign tourists had visited Tripura and the number of domestic tourists were more than than two lakhs last year.
''The state government will go all-out to promote this industry to increase tourist inflow both foreign and domestic,'' the ICAT minister added.
There are many tourists spots in the state, including Unokuti, where sculptures of nearly a crore gods and goddesses can be seen.
There are other tourist spots as well like Dambur Lake in Dhalai district, Jampui hill, famous for its oranges in north District, Neermahal and Kamalasagar, close to Bangladesh border and the Ujjayanta Prasad, which is now the Assembly house of the state in West District, and famous Tripureswari temple in the temple town of Udaipur in south district among others.
Tripureswari temple, Ujjayanta Prasad and Neermahal were built by the then Maharajas of the princely state.
