Tripura expresses concern over present turmoil in Bangladesh

Agartala, Oct 31 (UNI) Tripura government today expressed concern over the political turmoil in neighbouring Bangladesh and hoped normalcy would prevail soon.

''The present situation in the neighbouring country, which is close to Tripura, is quite grave. We hope normalcy will prevail in that country and have faith and confidence in the people of Bangladesh,'' Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told reporters last night.

''Vigilance has been strengthened on the stretch of the border with Bangladesh,'' he said.

The Union government has alerted Tripura government and the Border Security force (BSF) to stop any attempt of influx into the state, Mr Sarkar said.

''All the police outposts and stations in the bordering areas of the state and sub-divisions have been put on high alert. Every information in this regard is brought to the knowldege of the Union government,'' he added.

Regarding the recent spurt of violence in Tripura by the underground outfits, Mr Sarkar, who is also incharge of home portfolio, said attacks on the security forces was nothing but to weaken the morality of the forces. However, he claimed the forces would be able to face the ultras with strength.

''Both the para-military forces of Assam Rifles and the BSF have been asked to remain on alert and foil any attempt by the underground forces,''Mr Sarkar said.
