Terrorists infiltration is high in Tripura

Agartala, Oct 31 (UNI) Terrorist's infiltration was increasing in Tripura following the changed political situation in neighbouring Bangladesh, official sources here admitted.

Sources said more then 50 National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-Biswamohan) cadres from Bangala desh have crossed over to the state through the porous border in the past 90 days. Another about 30 ultras of All Tripura Tigers Force (ATTF) also sneaked into the state from their hideouts in the neighbouring country, the officials added.

Speaking to UNI, the source revealed more than 15 NLFT and 7 ATTF rebels sneaked into the state through the Noliabari-Jamia colony area of Khowai sub-division in Tripura's West District in July last.

''The number has increased considerably in August,'' the source said adding about 20-25 NLFT and 12-13 ATTF rebels sneaked into the state through Ranthan Chaudhury Para area in Chamanu sub-division of Dhalai district.'' The infiltration, reduced in September but the violence was on the rise. The rebels attacked the security personnel on four occasions in past ten days killing seven of them and injuring a few.

Intelligence sources attributed this to recent influx of rebels due to porous Indian borders and political unrest in the neighbouring country, where many anti-India outfits find safe refuge.

''It is not yet certain that they (the terrorists) are doing it on the persuance of Bangladeshi Government or on their own to create pressure on the state Government,'' the source added.

When contacted, a top BSF official acknowledged there was infiltration of terrorists from Bangladesh. ''The exact number is not yet known,'' added the official. He said the violent activities carried out by terrorists in the state was on the higher side compared to the past few years.

''Another reason of the violent activities by the terrorists groups in the state was to grab promotion in the rank and file which generally takes place during the last few months of each year,'' the official said.
