Restore HTS to prevent starvation: Rijiju

Itanagar, Oct 31 (UNI) Lok Sabha member Kiren Rijiju has exhorted the need for restoring the Hills Transport Subsidy (HTS).

He said the absence of HTS would lead to starvation and create law and order problem.

Cairing the state level consultative committee meeting for Food Corporation of India (FCI) held recently in Guwahati, Mr Rijiju feared that public distribution system (PDS) might grind to a halt any time in Arunachal and urged both the FCI and state government to ensure that food grain reach the targeted people, official sources here today said.

Elaborating on the green revolution and the transformation of India from being food deficit country to food surplus nation, the MP explained about the importance of PDS and role of FCI in the hilly and inaccessible state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The member of Parliament from Arunchal also stressed upon the need to substitute wheat with enhanced quota of rice under PDS and other schemes proportionately as wheat consumption in Arunachal was negligible, sources added.
