People have lost confidence in MK after civic polls: BJP

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 31 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi has lost peoples' confidence after elections to local bodies, Tamil Nadu BJP President L Ganesan alleged today.

Talking to newspersons here he charged that, elections to local bodies were not held in a proper manner, especially in Chennai. They were neither free nor fair.

The victory of DMK and its allies was not due to the peoples' judgement. It was a victory achieved with the help of goondas,'' he charged.

On the PMK supremo S Ramadoss's outburst against the DMK that, PMK nominees were defeated in many places because of DMK, Mr Ganesan said even before completing the one-year-term, the DMK-led alliance was cracking.

Mr Ganesan said Dr Ramadoss must also highlight public issues or implementation of welfare schemes instead of fighting for power and sharing posts.

He said it was also not clear whether Dr Ramadoss was making certain demands or trying to threaten the ''big brother'' (Karunanidhi).

The BJP leader said Tamil Nadu should be liberated from the clutches of the Dravidian parties, the DMK and AIADMK. The national parties should play a dominant role in the state's politics and that the BJP was working towards it, he added.

He urged the Forward Bloc party to join hands with the BJP for the simple reason that it was only the Forward Bloc, nurtured by late Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Devar, which stands for both spiritualism and nationalism.

The BJP had already moved the courts with regard to the alleged irregularities in the civic body elections in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai he said.
