More of imported wheat and pulses to arrive at Indian ports

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Against a tender of import of wheat for 55 lakh MT, a quantity of 24 lakh tonne has reached Indian ports till today.

Six vessels are currently at discharge at Chennai, Kandla, Vizag and Mundra ports, having a total quantity of 3,08,197 MT of wheat, out of which 1,62,942 MT has been discharged by October 30, 2006.

Seven vessels have arrived with 3,18,722 MT of wheat at Mundra, Chennai, Kandla and Vizag ports and are under fumigation, quality check and berthing.

Thirteen vessels that have sailed to Indian ports with 7,66,645 MT of wheat, are scheduled to arrive by November 25, 2006, according to an official statement here.

Thirty-five vessels with a total quantity of 17,74,068 MT of wheat have been received by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) till yesterday.

Wheat prices at the retail level have remained steady at Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Patna, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram during the week ended October 26, 2006. Though, there was slight increase at Jaipur and Mumbai.

Wheat futures prices for all the contracts as on October 25, are higher than spot price except for March 2007.

NAFED has so far received 48,061 MT of pulses of the contracted quantity of 49,300 MT at Chennai which comprises 35,168 MT of urad and 12,893 MT of moong.

NAFED has also disposed of 31,069 MT of urad and 6,065 MT of moong at Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhubaneshwar and Jaipur at average prices of Rs 34.22 and Rs 29.11 per kg respectively.

The balance of the contracted quantity of urad and moong is expected to be shipped shortly, the statement added.
