New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) The Committee on Government Assurances of the Lok Sabha is considering asking the Ministers making any assurance in the House to make a statement after every six months about the status of implementation of the pending assurances, its Chairman Harin Pathak said today.

He said taking note of the delay in implementation of assurances made by Ministers in the House, the Committee had already laid down that while laying the statements in implementation of assurances in the Lok Sabha which are more than three months old, the reasons for the delay should invariably be given in each case in the implementation of thetatement.

Mr Pathak was addressing a conference of Chairmen of Committees on Government Assurances of Parliament and State/UT Legislatures here in his capacity as the Chairman of the Conference.

Mr Pathak said there was a separate item on the Committee's agenda on this subject and the matter could be discussed in some detail at that stage.

''If the Committee is to be purposeful and meaningful, it must work with a sense of commitment as well as persuasion so that the ministires may not think that the Committees are not serious about the matter,'' the Conference Chairman said.

Mr Pathak told the Confernce that of the total of about 77,073 assurances given during the first to fourteenth Lok Sabha about 74,905 assurances have been fulfilled /dropped and only about 2168 assurances were pending in the Lok Sabha.
