Jalandhar boys down Orissa school to lift Nehru Hockey title

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Riding on Prabhdeep Singh's brace, Government High School, Harnamdaspura (Jalandhar) quelled a late charge by Town High School, Sundergarh (Orissa) to beat them 3-2 and lift the 24th ONGC-Nehru Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament here today.

Harjinder Singh scored the other goal for the winners, while the Orissa side reduced margin through two quick goals by Ignacis Toppo and Ernes Surin.

The first half, by and large, was evenly fought before Harjinder opened the account for the winner with a field goal in the 12th minute as the Jalandhar side went into the breather with a one-goal cushion.

Prabhdeep then displayed his penchant for scoring, when he butressed the lead, converting a penalty corner and within two minutes, a defensing lapse by the Orissa school resulted in a penalty stroke and Prabhdeep was bang on target again as he made it 3-0.

Just when it seemed all over for the Sundergarh school, Ignacis and Ernes came up with two superb goals in a span of two minute to make it 3-2 and the game suddenly becoming an intense affair.

However, the Jalandhar side defended their citadel well and heaved a huge sigh of relief at the sounding of the hooter.

In another match, GRM Senior Secondary Public School, Nangloi downed Army Boys Sports Coy, BRC Danapur 4-1 to finish third.

Mohit (2), Ashok and Naveen scored for the winners, while the Danapur side reduced margin through Bendict Guria.
