Gudivada gets record rainfall of 55 cm on a day
Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 31 (UNI) Gudivada, a small town in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, received record rainfall of 55 cm on a single day today.
Vast stretches of fertile land in the Krishna Delta region, the rice bowl of the state, became sheets of water as a result.
Buses parked in Gudivada bus stand were submerged in five to six feet of water, forcing authorities to cancell all bus services.
The maximum daily rainfall ever recorded in one day in any city was 94.4 cm in Mumbai on July 26, 2005, sources in the Indian Department of Meteorology said, adding that the world's highest ever rainfall in one day was 182.5 cm, recorded on January 6, 1966 in Fac Fac, on La Reunion island in the Indian Ocean.
