Governor extends greeting on eve of State formation

Hyderabad, Oct 31 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur today extended warm and cordial greetings to Telugu people living within and outside the State on the eve of Andhra Pradesh Formation Day's Golden Jubilee Celebrations.

''On the joyous occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Andhra Pradesh, I convey my warm and cordial greetings to the people of the State'', he said in a message.

''Fifty years is not a very long period for a State, for Andhra Pradesh, a State formed in 1956 on linguistic basis, these fifty years have been eventful. It has progressed both in the fields of agriculture and industry. Andhra Pradesh has rich mineral resources and is now going to emerge as a prosperous State in the country, he observed.'' Mr Thakur said the era of planned development was ushered in the State from first November, 1956 immediately after formation, he recalled, adding that ''The State Government has striven to implement programmes that are focussed on the rural economy, social security, welfare, industry and related activities.

He said the major task of the Government to bring back agriculture on the centre stage by implementing with unstinted commitment Jalayagnam to bring about 65 lakh acres of parched land under irrigation and it was expected to be materialised in the near future.

Further the State Government had been giving free power to deserving farmers, he added.

The Governor said the Government had achieved a spectacular growth in almost all the areas, namely, irrigation, agriculture, housing, education, animal husbandry and industry.

With the ongoing accelerated growth in various sectors, the State was poised to become a role model for the country, he added.
