Former SIDCO manager gets 7 years' RI in bribe case
Thrissur, Oct 31 (UNI) The Vigilance Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge P K Berkathali today sentenced G Alex, former manager of SIDCO industrial estate at Ettumanoor, to seven years' rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 for accepting bribe.
According to the prosecution, Alex accepted a bribe of Rs 500 as first instalment of Rs 50,000 demanded from one C V Ronanto in Manaloor to grant permission for a shed in a mini-industrial estate three years ago.
In another case, the judge sentenced K A Thavaraj, a former Gram panchayat secretary, to six years' rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 for accepting a bribe of Rs 500 in 2001 from one Kunju Mohammed of Eriyad in Kodungalloor for assessing house tax.
