Final decision on sealing to be taken by Supreme Court: CM

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Any decision on the sealing drive against commercial establishments in residential areas in the capital will be taken by the Supreme Court, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at the Old Secretariat here the Chief Minister said the Supreme court-appointed Monitoring committee on sealing had forwarded to the court yesterday a report containing recommendations from several quarters, including the MCD, to postpone the sealing drive till the finalisation of the Master Plan.

The MCD had, in a communication to the committee on Sunday, recommended postponement of the drive citing law and order problems.

Ms Dikshit said the MCD, in its communication to the Monitoring committee, had submitted that sealing should not be conducted from November 1 as the law and order situation was not conducive for it.

Further, it has also recommended that the 44000 traders who have sumitted affidavits in the court be also given time till January 31.

The report had been sent by the Monitoring committee after holding consultations with not only the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, but also the Police Commissioner K K Paul and the Delhi Chief Secretary.

She said the MCD and the Urban Development Ministry had also filed a review petition in the Supreme Court today in this regard.

''The Supreme Court will hear all these pleas in its hearing on November 7, when any decision on the issue is expected,''Ms Dikshit said and expressed the hope that the traders would get relief from sealing.
