Dengue claims 154 lives, 8951 people infected

New Delhi, Oct 31: The death toll due to dengue in the country has reached 154 with 8951 people suffering from the viral disease, the health ministry said here today.

In Delhi, NCR and neighbouring states, 2640 cases of dengue have been reported with 45 people succumbing to the disease. Out of these, 1621 cases have been reported from Delhi alone.

Of the 1019 cases from outside Delhi, 31 cases came from Haryana, 553 cases from Uttar Pradesh, 20 cases from Rajasthan and 135 from other states.

Apart from Delhi, the maximum number of dengue cases have been reported from Rajasthan (1224), followed by Kerala (849),West Bengal (785), Punjab (809), Uttar Pradesh (592), Maharashtra (582), Gujarat (461), Haryana (390), Tamil Nadu (320), Andhra Pradesh (93) and Karnataka (92).

Meanwhile, 1684 cases of chikungunya have been confirmed of which 34 were from Delhi and the NCR region. The maximum number of confirmed Chikungunya cases have been reported from Maharashtra (679) followed by Karnataka (294), Andhra Pradesh (248), Gujarat (170), Tamil Nadu (116), Madhya Pradesh (70), Kerala (38),Rajasthan (24) and Puducherry (9).
