Cyclone: Toll touches 12 in AP
Hyderabad, Oct 31 (UNI) The death toll in rain-related mishaps touched 12 as cyclonic system, which weakened into low pressure today, left a trail of destruction in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will undertake an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas tomorrow, a release from the Chief Minister's office said.
Gudivada which recorded an extremely high rainfall of 55 cm and Machilipatnam, which recorded a very high rainfall of 34 cm today, were inundated.
Over one lakh people, including 60,000 in Krishna district, were evacuated to 352 relief camps, according to Chief Secretary J Harinarayan, who reviewed the flood situation with senior officials.
Prakasam district accounted for six deaths, followed by Guntur three East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna District one each, a release from the Disaster Management Commissioner said.
