Chautala to campaign for Badal in Punjab elections

Chandigarh, Oct 31 (UNI) Setting aside the Indian National Lok Dal's differences with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over the SYL issue, INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala today said he would definitely campaign for SAD president Parkash Singh Badal during the Punjab Assembly elections.

''I want to see Badal Sahib as the chief minister of Punjab and will surely campaign for him,'' Mr Chautala declared at a press conference here.

The INLD has been facing rivalry from the BJP in Haryana, which is an ally of the SAD in the coming Punjab polls.

The INLD government had moved Supreme Court saying Punjab was not abiding by a verdict of the apex court to complete the canal, while the SAD always stood against the proposed canal.

Responding to a querry regarding the demand of the Sikhs of Haryana for a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Mr Badal's staunch opposition to the demand, Mr Chautala said this was ''a religious issue of the Sikh community'' and he would not comment on the matter.
